Michael McFadyen's Scuba Diving - Ghost Bay, Indonesia
In May 2024 I spent a bit over two weeks diving in Tulamben before moving south to Amed for another week's diving. Both these places are on the north-eastern coast of Bali. While at Tulamben you virtually only do shore dives, most of the dives at Amed are boat dives. Some of these were back up towards Tulamben and some were even to the wreck of the USAT Liberty (which we declined to go on).
The main Amed dive sites are very close to the town and its nearby villages, just off the shore in reality. I stayed at the Hotel Uyah and used their associated dive shop Amed Dive Center which is on the premises.
Ghost Bay is a dive site that is straight in front of the hotel and of course is a shore dive. An approximate GPS mark for this dive is 8°19'57.4"S 115°38'29.7"E (using WGS84 as the datum).

As mentioned, the site is straight off the Hotel Uyah so we gear up near the beach and walk into the water. We straight out to the north to some artificial reefs. The bottom is sand and for 18 metres we are shallower than eight metres. However, it then drops quite steeply to 25 metres.
The first things we see are domes, created from pieces of steel. There are at least six of them. Next we come to some other structures made from pipes and bottles. Inside one of the pipes there is a large spotted moray eel that comes out and lets me scratch him. The bottles are also homes to littler fish like blennies.

There are more reefs, including some created from motorbike tyres. We see two octopus, including a mimic octopus. They both disappeared down tiny holes in the sand. We also see some mantis shrimps and two tiny translucent lionfish. We head back via the artificial reefs to the shore.

In the shallows we see more Shaun the Sheep nudibranchs and hundreds of garden eels. We spend our safety stop in this area, it really is quite nice.

Our dive was 70 minutes and we ended up back in front of the hotel and exited via the beach where we started out from. Visibility was very good, at least 20 metres and a warm 29C. A very good dive.
